Biography

Meradin has worked and studied in the NHS for over 30 years and is now one of the most experienced Directors of Public Health in Local Government. She is driven by a passion for good quality care and compassion for others; these are principles which she has applied throughout her career as a nurse, midwife and as a nurse practitioner in general practice, followed by 15 years in public health. She established national training schemes and protocols at all levels. She is now using all this experience as the new Vice President of the UK’s Faculty of Public Health responsible for Standards. Meradin trained as a nurse in Sydney at a specialist health college. Her subsequent career includes study and practice of midwifery in East London, health promotion at Kings College University of London, a Masters in Health Management at the City University, a role in Public Health at Brighton University and she was one of the first non-medical Fellows and board members of the Faculty of Public Health. Recently she was Director of Public Health in Kent for 11 years and based at Kent County Council for 7 years. During this time she managed NHS emergency planning for 7 years, saw a 45% reduction in teenage pregnancy in Maidstone, and a significant reduction in health inequalities in many parts of Kent. Currently, Meradin is the Director of Public Health for the Tri-Borough in London, incorporating Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster Councils.
