Biography

Dr. Carolyn C. Johnson, PhD, FAAHB, NCC, LPA, FAAHB, is the endowed Usdin Family Professor in the Department of Global Community Health and Behavioral Sciences at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She is currently the Director of the Tulane Prevention Research Center, Director of the Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health, and Chief of the Section of Maternal and Child Health within her department. Dr. Johnson earned an MS in Clinical Psychology from San Diego State and a PhD in Applied Biopsychology from the University of New Orleans. She has been in a faculty position at Tulane for 25 years. The main focus of her research is health education and health promotion for behaviors that are preventive against the development of chronic disease, specifically physical activity, nutrition, and smoking. She has been funded as PI and Co-PI by both federal and state agencies on multiple single and multisite studies. Dr. Johnson chairs the social and behavioral sciences extramural research program for the Division of Transplantation at the Health Resources and Services Administration, and formerly chaired grant review panels for the U. S. Army prostate and breast cancer programs. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Health Behavior, a nationally certified counselor and a Louisiana Professional Counselor.
